Sports as we know have a huge impact on our everyday lives. We rely on sports for a lot of things: entertainment, to make conversation with others and even to feel included in a select community.
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, not only has the world of sport changed drastically but every other norm we were accustomed to before has been altered.
COVID-19 has been studied a lot since the outbreak in December 2019. It has had many effects on the entire population and is especially detrimental to people living in poverty situations, older persons, persons with disabilities, youth, and indigenous peoples.
How has this affected sports?
Basketball is one of the four major sports watched in the United States, they have been feeling the effects from Covid-19 along with football, baseball and ice hockey.
Lingering effects of Covid-19, as athletes test positive for Covid-19, coaches and health officials fear it could have long term effects on the players. Therefore, because of this concern starting seasons may be difficult to predict and we wonder if the concerns outweigh the need for professional sports to begin. Some major sports teams have been giving up and allowing thousands of fans into their arenas for example, The Miami Dolphins have allowed 13,000 or more fans to attend their games during this pandemic.
