The Seattle Storm won their fourth overall WNBA Championship that was held on October 6th, 2020. They won with an overwhelming score of 92-59 against their opponents the Las Vegas Aces.
Sue Bird, along with Breanna Stewart, who earned the MVP of the championship for the second time, performed phenomenally side by side. Stewart made history by scoring more than 35 points. No other female athlete has done that before. The Seattle Storm had a perfect post-season record of 6-0, along with their regular season being 18-4.
Most female athletes need a second job in order to provide for themselves and their families. This occurs due to their low and unequal salaries. Sue Bird, along with other WNBA athletes have been fighting and are continuing to fight this inequality.
A question to consider from this Championship win can include: Will female athletes ever get the recognition they deserve in sports?
Female athletes are fighting for change. They want to make a difference in gender equality (equal pay, equal respect, etc.). When female athletes get their recognition they deserve, this can increase their social interactions with other people, their financial health, along with their health and well-being. With the support from others, young girls all around the world may be persuaded to fulfill anything they put their minds to. People are hopeful that this will change soon.
