Sports Illustrated released an article dedicate to powerful, influential, and dedicated women in sport. The list of women is very diverse and covers a variety of sports. The first woman on the list is Billie Jean King, tennis legend that has been fighting for women’s rights in sports since beginning her sporting career in the 1970s. Her goal was for women to earn equal pay as men in sport. To this day, she is still fighting for this, at the age of 76.

Women have been fighting gender norms in sports since they have begun competing. As we can see from Billie Jean King’s life, women are still fighting for equality in sports and trying to show the coming generations that women can make a change. Although women competing in sport is at an all-time high, the competitions they are engaging in are not being broadcast near as much as their male counterparts. This is not limited to sports, in most areas of life, men make more than women, even if they both possess the same skill set. In a recent interview, Keira Knightly suggested that the only jobs that women make more money than men are modelling and prostitution. There are so many barriers that exist for women, especially in sport, that people are still fighting against, like the women featured by Sports Illustrated suggests.
