Athletes Are Giving Back During COVID-19

While sports teams continue to navigate through the effects of COVID-19 this has not gotten in the way of them helping and giving back to the community in these times of need.

As COVID-19 struck North America, we saw the drastic effects of this pandemic, job losses, reduced wages, lack of healthcare. This had a huge impact on everyone’s lives. Lots of celebrity’s and athletes quickly acted in any way they could. A sports agency called Octagon brought together some of the biggest names in sports to create Athletes for Relief, a fundraising tool to raise money for families affected by COVIID-19.

Another way athletes are helping out is through their own efforts. For example, Charlotte Hornets’ Bismack Biyombo donated 1 million dollars’ worth of medical supplies to his home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Former NBA player Mike Conley donated $200,000 to five communities that helped shape who he is today.

Athletes have been leading by example during these times. It has been very inspirational for our nation.
