The game of basketball has become one of the top sports in Canada. It is because of the Canadian players like Andrew Wiggins who has opened the doors to many other Canadian players. With his stardom in the NBA, he has never forgotten his hometown of Vaughan, Ontario. Since Andrew Wiggins started his career, he has given back to the kids through his campaign called Help Kids be Kids. He donates $22 for every point he scored, with the average donation being $35,000 to $45,000 per year.

He also organizes a free basketball camp yearly at his old high school Vaughan Secondary School, giving back to the community and giving back to the kids is beneficial to kids.

Researchers have found that when kids have a role model it has a great influence on a child’s life, especially if the role model is of the same race. Further, many kids find playing sports a way out of a life of poverty or crime. Most NBA players do not sign up to be role models but, Andrew Wiggins is excelling at his role as a role model in aspiring the youth to follow their dreams.
