Fines for the Fight

Conor McGregor and Kabib Nurmagomedov had one of the most eventful UFC fights in recent history this past fall, but there’s a catch. The most entertaining part of the fight came after the winner had been declared. Leading up to the bout, it had been well known that the two men were not fond of each other. Tension was very high, as you could easily tell watching the fight; it was certainly more tense than any regular match. The fight ended with Nurmagomedov choking McGregor out in the fourth round of competition, and what occurred afterwards was something never witnessed before. Nurmagomedov jumped the ring and went after members of McGregor’s team. This lead to a brawl in the stands and other members of Nurmagomedov’s team attacking  McGregor with blind side blows. Months later, the fines have finally been dished out and they have come with considerable controversy.

Nurmagomedov will be fined $500 000, whereas McGregor will only be fined $50 000 for the events that took place post fight. Many sports reporters and analysts believe that this is unfair punishment for Nurmagomedov, with his fine much higher than McGregor’s. Nurmagomedov stated afterwards that McGregor made fun of his father, religion and country before the fight, which was why he was motivated to do what he did. Looking back on the incident, this supposedly game Nurmagomedov the motivation to do what he did, because it went beyond the sport itself.
