Washington Capitals (NHL) forward Evgeny Kuznetsov recently failed a drug test required by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for having traces of cocaine in his system. This resulted in a 4-year ban from all IIHF tournaments, but, fortunately for this star forward, this ban does not carry over to the NHL season, because it is classified as drug abuse and not a form of PED use.

Recently the NHL did follow up the a 3-game suspension for the player, but this is merely a slap on the wrists to hopefully ensure that this type of indecent doesn’t happen again. Kuznetsov who had been spotted in a video involving cocaine this past spring and denied allegations of drug use at the time (as he was not seen touching the powder), owned his mistake in a interview after the fact.
