The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) has had to deal with pay inequalities in the sports world. As women continuously demand better pay and working conditions in the league; nothing has seemed to change. There is a persistent pay gap between women’s and men’s basketball. This might be because of gender discrimination and the misrepresentation of these lower paying professionals. Since the creation of WNBA in the late 1990s, there has been a great number of issues faced such as low salaries, a lack of maternity benefits, and marketing players. These issues arise amongst claims that the female players salary is less because they drive less revenue.

The women in the WNBA have the same dedication as men in the NBA which seems to leave many curious about why their salary is lower. Female basketball players should receive more than 20 -30 percent of income from their league’s revenue. In order, for the WNBA to become more profitable, ticket sales would need to increase, they would need to receive better player endorsements, and enhance advertisement of the game. We have been programmed to accept men’s sports as more dominant and somehow more interesting; with this being said it takeaways from the support of women’s basketball. As these women continuously fight to be seen as equal to men; unfortunately they still don’t receive the recognition and pay they deserve.
