Since the start of the pandemic, COVID-19 has been preventing us from doing our favourite activities and our favourite pastimes. Most of our lives have been affected both mentally and physically due to this virus and many regions have put in place different rules to protect their community. Being able to attend sporting events is a very common pastime. The pandemic has been stopping some league/teams fans from attending such events over the last year to keep us safe. The NHL and NBA have finished and started their season with no fans in the stadiums, while the MLB, NFL, and US college football associations have put in place specific rules to allow a certain amount of fans to attend the live games.
Why should only specific sports allow fans to watch games? There are talks about the risk factors that come with participating in such events. Smaller stadiums and indoor facilities have a greater risk to spread the virus compared to outdoor stadiums. Significant financial losses are something teams and leagues face when not having fans. The organizations expect to lose a fair amount of money. Keeping stadiums closed also affects other areas such as restaurants, bars, shops, and many others more that rely on live sporting events to earn a living.
The impact fans have on a sport is needed to keep our loved teams alive. Being able to attend sporting events should be allowed sport-wide with certain restrictions and policies in place to keep fans and players safe. Allowing this to happen can save many economies and benefit our favourite teams.
