MLB Fans Prepare for California’s Motion to Reopen Live Outdoor Sporting Events

In March of 2021, California decided to loosen its restrictions surrounding outdoor sporting and entertainment events. Following the global wide pandemic that touched down last march, California has seen a steady increase in coronavirus cases. California originally implemented an ‘emergency break’ which required businesses, sporting events, and public schooling to adjust their jurisdictions. A year later, we are now seeing a lift in restrictions. Governor. Gavin Newsom announced the new restrictions commencing April 1st that will allow outdoor events to open at a decreased capacity depending on their county’s tier. The county’s tier refers to the area’s spread of the virus and corresponding restrictions.

The restriction update granted every Major League Baseball fan’s wish, announcing that the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Angels, and the Oakland A’s had all declared their excitement to have the stands full of their fans for the Major League Baseball’s opening day. The lift in restrictions will allow residents of California to slowly transition back to a normal pace, while the vaccination numbers continue to increase. Fortunately for MLB fans, the seasonal games can be held in an outdoor venue, whereas indoor sporting events will remain prohibited.

Sporting events are more than entertainment; they assist with the fundamental elements of our society. Community sporting events allow for a rise in relationships amongst the economical, political, and societal aspects of an area. To be a part of a team or community that shares the same excitement for a collective event symbolizes the importance of integrating new restrictions to impact the country’s state of mind. COVID-19 has impacted the world of sport dramatically, which is why the notion to lift restrictions has been pushed heavily by the local sport and entertainment associations. However, the governance of coronavirus is far from returning society back to  “normal”.
