“Bigger Than Basketball”

Whether it’s the unconditional love for the sport, or the teammates that have turned into family, sport gives a special meaning to people’s lives in one way or another. This is especially true for best friends and former teammates Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan.

DeMar DeRozan was recently traded from The Toronto Raptors to The San Antonio Spurs and it has been reported that The Raptors could potentially have some problems stewing with Lowry. It is said that Lowry and DeRozan have an unbreakable bond due to their time spent together both on and off the court these past seasons. According to TSN, Lowry was said to have avoided communication with his team’s president and head coach, during this year’s offseason. It is clear to all that Lowry is focused on working hard and winning; with this being said, it was reported that Lowry was declining interviews on the situation involving DeRozan.

DeRozan and Lowry’s friendship remains. As The Globe and Mail, reported Lowry said that “People don’t understand that our friendship is bigger than basketball. This isn’t facade of two teammates who look friendly – this is truly is a real friendship.”

DeRozan and Lowry’s friendship is a prime example of the good that comes within sports, and the connection that sports play when it comes to family, friends and social life. Although when being involved in a professional sport, one so intense as the National Basketball Association, it can sometimes be difficult to focus on anything besides winning. DeRozan and Lowry are living proof of the positive outcomes that can come from playing the sport that you love.
